I definitely love the 24/7 availability of the K-12 Conference. I chose a presentation by a guy named Geoffrey Derry, from Australia, but teaching in China! The presentation was on a program called SCRATCH, which was developed at MIT. It is a program allowing kids to program sprites that they create. It reminds me of the old LOGO program with the little turtle that I used years ago. It’s great because kids get a good dose of programming logic, solve their own problems, and can be very creative. Mr. Derry also suggested several sites such as learnscratch.org to learn how to use and teach SCRATCH to your students. I will be exploring this further. This is definitely something I will use with my 4th and 5th Graders.
